01The story
In 1990 he painted Brezhnev and Honecker kissing on a grey slab of the Berlin Wall. The wall came down, the country it belonged to disappeared, and the painting is still standing there. He died in 2022.
I make the Wall Pieces here in Berlin. Each one is painted, numbered and packed by hand, so they take a while and none of them come out quite the same.
02The object
Seventeen centimetres of the East Side Gallery, painted by hand. It fits on a shelf, a desk or a windowsill, and in my experience people pick it up.
03In rooms
Shelves, sideboards, side tables. Seventeen centimetres finds a spot in most rooms.
